mountain top days

September 4, 2010

The day we took the tram up to Sandia Peak, it was barely 70 F at the top. I had almost forgotten what that felt like.

The breeze was fresh and smelled of pine needles warmed by the sun.

The view went on forever.

I felt like I could breathe. Really breathe.

Some days are like that – “mountain top” days – when you feel like you have conquered, you have risen above. The whole world is at your feet.

You can breathe. Really breathe.

Sometimes those days come after a long battle. Sometimes those days come in the midst of a long battle – just to remind you that life is worth the fight.

Today is one of those days. I’ve pushed myself pretty hard this week with work and school. Especially school. Sometimes it is so overwhelming that I have to get up and walk away. Then I come back, make a plan, readjust my strategy for winning the battle and go at it again.

I am thankful that days like this come to remind me that life is worth the fight. Because I know it is. I just forget sometimes.
