getting into the christmas spirit

December 8, 2010

It’s hard. Life is just so full and so fast that I have to be purposeful about taking time to get in the spirit.

Here are some things I’m doing:

– watching Christmas movies like White Christmas, Holiday Inn, A Season for Miracles, etc.

– making/decorating sugar cookies. I’m buying supplies tonight. I have to make at least one batch.

– spending time with family and friends.

– putting up a tree, even if it’s a little table top one. We bought a second one this year that’s even smaller and holds our more eclectic ornaments.

– stringing Christmas lights on the porch. Even if it’s just one strand.

– giving. Whether it’s dropping extra change into the red Salvation Army bin or sending an extra special gift to the children I sponsor. I have to give.

– lighting candles every evening. This makes things so cozy. Especially if you get one that smells like a fresh-cut Christmas tree!

– driving around to see the lights in the different neighborhoods (having a Starbuck’s Peppermint Mocha in hand makes it even better ;)).

– playing Christmas music. Even on a tight budget, getting a few, new songs from iTunes can’t hurt.
